Description

Syringa × diversifolia is a rare hybrid lilac valued for its fragrant flowers and attractive foliage. It typically grows as a deciduous shrub to around 2–3 m high and wide, forming a rounded habit. In spring to early summer, it produces dense clusters of mauve to lilac-purple flowers with the classic sweet lilac fragrance, excellent for cutting or planting near outdoor living areas.

Best grown in cool to temperate regions of Australia, it prefers full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Lilacs enjoy a cold winter to promote strong flowering, making them particularly suited to areas with frosty winters (such as parts of Victoria, Tasmania, ACT, and cooler elevated regions). Regular pruning after flowering helps maintain shape and encourages more blooms the following season.
