One of the most beautiful and adaptable spruces in cultivation, quickly forming a tall, graceful, slender tree. A medium-sized to large tree with relatively short, drooping branches which curve upwards at the tips. Young shoots pale brown. Leaves flattened, 1-2cm long, dark green above, glaucous beneath, densely arranged on the upper surfaces of the branchlets, loosley parted below. The leaves of young plants are narrower, sharply pointed and more spreading on the shoots than those of the adult. Cones ovoid-conical,4-6cm long, bluish black when young.
