Description
Truly beautiful hardy ginger, large wonderfully fragrant bright yellow flowers. Bright yellow flowers 5'-6' stems are well-displayed from the 6"-8" floral cone.
The flowers are unique as the anthers have no filament which neatly places the anthers right by the petals. Each bract on the floral cone contains 3-5 flowers as compared to one typically, so each flower spike can last up to 5 weeks instead of around 2 weeks for other similar hedychium species.
A delightful scent will resonate throughout your garden. Reaching up to 1.5 metres high, naturalizing in large clumps mass flowering and giving a lush tropical effect in cool climates.
Collected more recently @ 2100 meters in the Salween River valley in the “Gaolingong Shan” of NW Yunnan China , a truly wonderful Horticultural area as I can attest. Kingdon-Ward and Handel-Mazzetti originally collected this species , but it never made it to cultivation apparently.
