Rare ground cover
Gunnera magellanica, also known as the Chilean Rhubarb, is an evergreen shrub with small leaves that creates a rich ground-cover. This perennial herb is found in Chile, Argentina, the Falkland Islands, Peru, and Ecuador, and is unique in its preference for damper areas within the Magellanic subpolar and Valdivian temperate forests and shrub formations on Tierra del Fuego. It belongs to the Gunneraceae family and is a dioeceous plant that grows to an altitude of 1,500 m.
