Persimmons are ornamental, hardy trees with good Autumn colour and edible fruit.
FEATURES: Deciduous tree growing to 5m, fruiting late Feb to May, after three years. Fruit should have a jam-like consistency before being consumed. Fruit can be eaten fresh, dried or cooked. The dried leaves of the tree are used for making tea in some locations in China and Korea.
CONDITIONS: They grow well both in the subtropical and temperate climates. Preferring a deep rich, well drained soil. A position protected from winds, in full sun is best.
FOR BEST RESULTS: Plant in a well-worked, moist soil, ensuring the bud union is at least 10cm above soil level.
Water well and keep moist until established.
