Description
Budded / Grafted Plants
Astringent
Persimmons are ornamental, hardy trees with good Autumn colour and edible fruit.
FEATURES: Deciduous tree growing to 5m, fruiting late Feb to May, after three years. Fruit should have a jam-like consistency before being consumed. Fruit can be eaten fresh, dried or cooked. The dried leaves of the tree are used for making tea in some locations in China and Korea.
CONDITIONS: They grow well both in the subtropical and perate climates. Preferring a deep rich, well drained A position protected from winds, in full sun is best.
FOR BEST RESULTS: Plant in a well-worked, moist soil, ensuring the bud union is at least 10cm above soil level.
Water well and keep moist until established. Apply a fertiliser annually in Winter. Only a light pruning is required, as persimmons produce fruit on current season's growth.
