a truly beautiful and elegant maple , with distinct five-lobed deep green leaves resembling a fine leaf Bamboo. This species maple is considered to be perhaps the rarest maple in the wild and deserves a place in the better garden. Leafs out later than most maples, hardy and strong growth to about 8-10 metres. Terrific Orange and red autumn colour. Hardy growing in Sun/ part shade. Dad introduced this species from its Native China and often sent seed off his mature trees to renowned plantsman John Vertrees USA ( of Japanese Maple fame ). Acer pentaphyllum is a very rare and endangered maple species in the wild endemic to southwestern Sichuan in China, at altitudes of 2300–2900 metres. Acer pentaphyllum is a deciduous tree that grows with good vigour and the bamboo effect of its extraordinary foliage is beyond compare.
