Description
The Deodar cedar is a lofty tree reaching 50m tall in the wild.It occurs in E Afghnistan:Hindu Kush;NW Pakistan:Karakoram range;N India:Kashmir;W Nepal;W China:southwest xizang(Tibet),at an altitude of 1,300-3,300m.It has horizontally spreading branches,slightly pendulous branch-tips and trunk diameter up to 3m.The long blue-green needles,grouped 20-30 together in false whorls,are 3-5cm long and 1-1.5mm wide.The pollen-cones are glaucous blue when ripening,later turning reddish brown,ovoid or barrel-shaped,1 or 2 together,7-13x5-9cm.
