Trees and Shrubs

rhaphiolepis springtime ©A low growing and hardy shrub with a good looking display of large pink flowers in spring followed by black berries. Quite frost hardy and can be grown in a wide range of climates.

Origin: South East Asia

Rhododendron Anne Teese A pink Rhododendron Maddenii hybrid with pale pink flowers and a deeper striped pink- purple outside. Very beautiful hybrid by Arnold Teese growing rarely more than 2 metres.

Origin: Australia

rhododendron yakushimanum © 2013   Delightful dwarf, mounded plant. White felted new growth. Beautiful pink buds turning snow white.

A beautiful shrub or occasionally a small tree with the general habit of a rhododendron and large, thick, shinning green leaves, glaucous beneath, crowding the tips of the stems. The drooping flower clusters consist of numerous silky-hairy, multi-coloured bracts through which emerge the bright, rose-madder petals and black anthers.

rhus chinensisWell-drained soils in full sun to part shade. This tree/shrub will spread by root suckering.

Rhus copallinaSumac are perhaps the best Autumn colouring plants period. Hardy large shrubs or small trees , these deciduous plants are show stoppers.

Rhus glabraSmooth Sumac has wonderful alternate leaves 30-59 cm long that start out green. In Autumn the oranges and reds are truly stunning. I find this plant very easy too grow and tolerant of full sun. Native of the Americas from Canada south to Mexico.

rhus typhina laciniata dissecta © bron anderson(Cutleaf Staghorn Sumac)Deciduous shrub, which wil grow up to 10 - 25 ft high, and spreads 15 - 25ft. Stunning Autumn folage, with showy flowers in July.

Origin: Missouri
