arbutus canariensis

Arbutus unedo Pink Pearls

Arbutus unedoThis bushy evergreen tree is referred to as the Irish Strawberry Tree. The name reflects the characteristics of the orange strawberry-like fruits. The word ‘unedo’ means ‘I eat one’. This doesn’t refer to the fact they are poisonous, simply that they are so bland you would only want to try one! A natural distribution across southern Spain and Portugal.

arbutusxandrachnoidesA stunning evergreen feature tree that can grow up to 15m. Rich glossy green foliage and interesting multiple twisted trunks. The rusty-brown bark disrobes during winter to reveal green new bark underneath.  Listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
